No one loves the beach more than I do—it might actually be my favorite place to shoot.
But it’s also fun (and necessary!) to change it up. Whether you’ve already done a beach session or you're just looking for something a little different, here are a few spots I've discovered in Monmouth County that offer unique scenes, all with their own personality.
1. The Bay Side of Sandy Hook
Yes, it’s technically still the beach—but the bay side is a completely different experience. Unlike the ocean side, where turning toward the setting sun can mean shooting into a backdrop of houses and power lines, the bay side gives you nothing but open water and sky behind you. It’s peaceful, unobstructed, and makes for some of the most beautiful, clean shots you can get around here. These unique tide pools form, plus it’s quiet, the water is calm, and man does the light hit differently—especially in the evening.

Why I love it:
Unique lighting and landscape
Minimal distractions—just clean skies, natural textures, and calm water
Feels open and expansive, but also quiet and personal
Perfect for: Dancers, dreamers, and anyone craving space and simplicity.
2. Dorbrook Park Recreation Area (Colts Neck)
Dorbrook is sneaky good. It’s technically a park, but it gives “wide open countryside” more than “community green space.” There’s a walking path that winds through grassy fields, tree lines, and fencing that gives just enough of that farm-adjacent charm without needing to trespass on actual farmland.

Why I love it:
Golden light that lasts longer than expected
Clean, rural vibe that works for everything from lifestyle to brand shoots
Versatile: you can get natural portraits or movement shots in one loop
Perfect for: Artists with an earthy edge, small biz owners who want warmth and authenticity, or anyone who wants movement + nature without sand in their shoes.
3. The Asbury Park Post Office
Yes, really! This historic building has vibes. We’re talking pale stone, vintage architecture, and arched doorways that photograph like a dream. The textures here are so cool—it feels like stepping into another era, but still very Asbury.

Why I love it:
Architectural interest without being too ornate
Neutral tones that pair well with bold or minimalist styling
Great light on both sunny and overcast days
Perfect for: Creatives with a classic-meets-edgy vibe, fashion-forward portraits, or anyone who wants a bit of an “editorial on the steps” moment.
4. Deep Cut Gardens (Middletown)
This is for the floral lovers, the fairytale energy, and anyone who wants to feel like they stepped into a secret garden. Deep Cut is full of beautifully maintained paths, lush greenery, and seasonal flowers that change the look throughout the year. There are stone staircases, curved benches, and little hidden corners that give a variety of backdrops in one shoot.

Why I love it:
Soft, romantic textures everywhere you turn
Color! Especially spring through early fall
It’s somehow peaceful and dramatic—great for portraits that feel layered and expressive
Perfect for: Dancers in flowing skirts, creatives with a romantic edge, brand shoots with a natural twist.
